The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has announced the appointment of a new commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Mykhailo Drapatiy. Oleg Apostol has also been appointed as the Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These decisions were made following meetings with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
"Major General Mykhailo Drapatiy successfully organized the defense in the Kharkiv direction and thwarted the offensive operation of Russian forces. Colonel Oleg Apostol is an experienced commander of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade. Both have proven their effectiveness in combat," Zelensky wrote.
For reference. Until recently, this position was held by Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, who was appointed commander in February 2024, succeeding Syrskyi, who now leads the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Oleksandr Syrskyi made important decisions in Donbas to strengthen the defense in "hot" areas. <Oleksandr Syrskyi made a working trip to the Pokrovske and Kurakhove directions, where he made significant decisions to bolster the units.
