Ukraine is grateful for the assistance provided by the American people in saving Ukrainians during the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the social media platform X.
"We are very thankful to the United States for all the support. I am grateful to President Trump, Congress for their bipartisan support, and to the American people. Ukrainians have always valued this support, especially during the three years of full-scale invasion," the president emphasized.
According to the president, despite the challenging dialogue between him and Trump, the countries remain strategic partners. However, both sides need to be honest and open with each other to truly understand their common goals.
Zelensky, referencing former U.S. President Ronald Reagan's words that "peace is not merely the absence of war," stressed that a just and lasting peace entails freedom, justice, and the respect for human rights for everyone.
He pointed out that a ceasefire would not work with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, as he has violated ceasefires 25 times over the past decade. Zelensky noted that the only solution is genuine peace.
Zelensky stated that he cannot change Ukraine's stance towards Russia, as Russians continue to kill Ukrainians, and Russia itself is the enemy. He mentioned that this is the reality the country must confront.
He highlighted that Ukraine seeks peace, but it must be fair and enduring. Zelensky emphasized that peace will only be achievable with security guarantees, a strong army, and support from international partners.
The president noted that it will be difficult for Ukraine without U.S. support, but Ukrainians cannot lose their freedom, their liberty, or their people.
Zelensky added that Europe is prepared for unpredictable situations and is providing financial support to strengthen the Ukrainian army. He stressed that the role of the U.S. in determining security guarantees—what type, scope, and duration— is also crucial.
He stated that once these guarantees are agreed upon, Ukraine will be able to engage in diplomatic negotiations with Russia, Europe, and the U.S. At the same time, he acknowledged that the war has lasted too long, and there are insufficient weapon supplies to completely drive out Russian troops.
Zelensky emphasized that this war is not merely a conflict between two countries, as Russia has brought it directly onto Ukrainian territory and into the homes of citizens. He asserted that Russia's actions are wrong because it does not respect Ukraine's territorial integrity.
According to him, all Ukrainians are eager to hear a clear and strong position from the U.S. in support of Ukraine. He noted that while the United States may seek dialogue with Putin, they have always adhered to the principle of "peace through strength."
The president also remarked that their relationship with the American president is more than just two leaders—it is a "historical and solid bond between our peoples."
As is known, during a meeting in the Oval Office between Trump, JD Vance, and Zelensky, a dispute arose. Trump stated that without Washington, Kyiv has no "cards to play," and Ukraine should be grateful for the assistance. Zelensky responded that the U.S. has no right to dictate what Ukraine should do.
