Ukrenergo is preparing several scenarios for the winter of 2024-2025 in Ukraine. They warn that it will be challenging. This was stated by the acting head of Ukrenergo, Alexey Brecht, as reported by
Suspilne. "Three options are being considered, including the worst-case scenario – the continuation of massive strikes on infrastructure, transmission networks, generation facilities, and so on," Brecht explained. According to him, in the spring, due to Russian shelling, Ukraine lost 9 GW of generating capacity, which is a "significant loss," and Ukrenergo plans to restore this capacity. The worst-case scenario for this winter involves continued massive attacks by Russia on generation facilities. "In this scenario, given the current level of electricity import we have today, we may face power restrictions on critical cold days, amounting to up to two schedules of outages, no more. That is, up to eight hours," the head of Ukrenergo assured. Ukraine and the European Union have agreed to increase
the capacity for electricity imports during winter to 2.1 GW. Finland will provide Ukraine with a new aid package as part of
cooperation in the energy sector.
