The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasized the significance of the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, highlighting the preparations for this event.
At a briefing on January 10, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tikhiy also addressed the potential communication between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, stressing that the Ukrainian side is focused on establishing direct contacts with the newly elected American leader.
"Donald Trump has previously mentioned plans for such a meeting, so we don't see anything new in this. Our position is very straightforward: we in Ukraine want to end the war in a way that is fair for Ukraine, and we see that President Trump is also determined to put an end to the war," Tikhiy stated.
He also mentioned that work on organizing a high-level Ukrainian-American meeting began immediately after Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential elections.
"We all anticipate direct, personal contact between President Zelensky and Trump. We expect these contacts to take place as soon as possible after Trump's inauguration," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.
It is worth noting that Donald Trump has announced preparations for a meeting with Vladimir Putin. The exact date for the negotiations has not yet been determined. Trump emphasized the need to put an end to the war in Ukraine.
