On Friday, February 21, the United States submitted a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly marking the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The document does not use the word "war" and does not specify the aggressor, as reported by
Reuters. It is noted that the text expresses regret over the loss of life in the "Russian-Ukrainian conflict." The document includes a reminder that "the main goal of the UN is to maintain international peace and security and to resolve disputes peacefully," as well as a call to "quickly end the conflict and establish lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine." This brief resolution, consisting of just three paragraphs, will effectively compete for adoption on Monday with a version proposed by Ukraine and EU countries, which addresses Russian crimes against international law. Reuters also reports that Russia wishes to introduce an amendment to the resolution that discusses "ending the conflict by addressing its root causes" - a propagandistic phrase used by the Kremlin. A representative of the aggressor country at the UN has already stated that with the amendment considered, Russia will vote in favor of the American resolution. Earlier, it was reported that
the US has yet to finalize its UN resolution regarding Ukraine.
