The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has added the International Register of Damages for Ukraine to the list of "undesirable organizations." Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that this move is yet another indication of how Russia distorts reality and attempts to evade responsibility for its actions. She reported this on Facebook on Wednesday, January 29.
"This confirms that our efforts on the international stage are effective and moving in the right direction, and Russia is powerless to stop them. We continue to document losses and seek compensation for both affected individuals and legal entities, as well as for Ukraine as a whole, ensuring justice for everyone," – emphasized Mudra.
According to her, the Ukrainian delegation is currently in The Hague, where the fourth preparatory meeting for the establishment of the second component of the international compensation mechanism – the Compensation Commission – is taking place.
Recall that the International Register of Damages for Ukraine (Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine) was established in the spring of 2023 under the auspices of the Council of Europe. Its primary goal is to collect data on material losses and damages inflicted on Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression. The headquarters of the register is located in The Hague (Netherlands).
Ukraine continues to collaborate with international partners to achieve compensation for damages and hold those responsible accountable. Currently, the register is accepting applications in two categories: for the destruction or damage of residential properties belonging to individuals, and for the loss of close relatives. Work is underway to open new categories.
Additionally, the development of the next component of the international compensation mechanism – the Claims Review Commission – is ongoing. This extrajudicial body will analyze applications from the register and determine compensation payments.
