Pistorius questioned whether Scholz is blocking weapons to Kyiv.

The German Defense Ministry has prepared a new aid package, and a political decision regarding its delivery to Ukraine now needs to be made.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius denied reports that Chancellor Olaf Scholz had allegedly blocked a weapons package for Ukraine worth three billion euros. This was reported on Sunday, January 12, by DW.   "There is no blockade," Pistorius assured.   However, according to the minister, the internal approval process for the package within the German government is not yet complete.   Pistorius noted that his department has prepared a new aid package, and a political decision regarding its provision to Kyiv now needs to be made.   Earlier, Der Spiegel reported that Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius are aiming to allocate around three billion euros for arms supplies to Ukraine before the Bundestag elections. However, this may be opposed by the office of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Sources from the publication suggested that Scholz does not wish to announce further arms supplies to Ukraine amid the election campaign, to avoid alienating potential voters of the SPD.   Recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz highlighted the need to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia during his New Year's address noted the necessity of supporting Ukraine.
