President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is not stepping down from his position, and the transition of leadership in Ukraine will be a complex process. He emphasized that he views the completion of the war and Ukraine's membership in NATO as his mission. Zelensky made these remarks on Sunday, March 2, in an
interview with British journalists following a summit of European leaders in London. "As for stepping down from my position, replacing me will not be easy. It's not enough to just hold elections; I also need to be prevented from running, which is a bit more complicated. It turns out that negotiations will have to be made with me. And I have said that I am trading myself for NATO. If NATO exists and the war is over, then I have fulfilled my mission," Zelensky noted. "Perhaps this is a way out for Putin... and for others, if I am not that flexible. Well, I am trading myself for NATO," the president added. He also criticized the interference of foreign officials in Ukraine's internal political processes, stressing that the choice of president should only be determined by Ukrainian citizens. "It looks like citizens of other countries are telling Ukrainians what kind of president they should have. Especially if these people hold official positions. This seems unconstructive and undemocratic," Zelensky emphasized. Recall that earlier Zelensky responded to statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his support among Ukrainians, which
is at 4%. The head of state pointed out that
Trump has become a victim of Russian disinformation.
