Dmytro Kuleba, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, expressed the view that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, now understands how challenging it is to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Kuleba noted that Trump no longer claims that peace will be established in "24 hours," as he had said before. He made this statement in an interview with the television channel France24.
Kuleba emphasized that one should not overly focus on Trump's remarks directed at Russian President Vladimir Putin. He warned that similar statements could be made regarding Ukraine and President Zelensky.
According to the former head of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry, Trump is seeking a peace agreement and an end to the conflict, but he realizes that significantly more time and effort will be needed than he initially anticipated. Therefore, Kuleba stated, promises of a swift end to the war are no longer being made.
Kuleba also noted that Trump is trying to understand how the opposing sides are responding to his threats and proposals. However, he cautioned that a constructive attitude towards negotiations does not always imply a genuine desire to participate in them.
Furthermore, Kuleba was asked about the remarks made by one of Trump's supporters, who in 2019 suggested halting aid to Ukraine if it refused to investigate Joe Biden's son. Kuleba emphasized that within Trump's administration, everyone will follow the president's decisions, despite any possible anti-Ukrainian sentiments in his circle. He assured that Trump will make the key decisions, and everyone else will carry them out, regardless of personal opinions.
It is worth noting that Vladimir Putin is preparing the ground for undermining peace agreements with Ukraine, according to ISW. ISW analysts point out that Putin is using manipulations and false interpretations of legislation to justify a potential disruption of any peace arrangements with Ukraine.
