Gennady Shapovalov is stepping down from his position as commander of the Southern Operational Command.

On Tuesday, February 4, the commander of the Southern Operational Command, Gennady Shapovalov, announced his decision to resign. This was made public through the official page of the Southern Operational Command on Facebook.

"I had the honor of being the commander of the troops of the Southern Operational Command - a powerful military collective that has bravely and selflessly defended the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine in all directions since the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war," Shapovalov wrote.

Shapovalov expressed pride in having worked with a "strong, united, and motivated team" of professionals.

He also thanked his colleagues for their "dedication, resilience, honest performance of duties, and productive cooperation in the defense of Ukraine."

Recall that Trump and Putin may be interested in Zelensky's resignation, according to Politico. The Trump administration is urging Ukraine to hold presidential elections by the end of 2025.
