The number of owners of luxury vehicles required to pay a transportation tax has significantly increased. While only 1,312 people paid it in 2022, this figure rose to 8,094 in 2024, reports Politeka.net.
It has been revealed which vehicle owners are obligated to pay the tax.
According to current legislation, owners of vehicles that meet two criteria must pay an annual tax of 25,000 UAH:
- Age – no older than 5 years;
- Value – from 375 minimum wages (approximately 3 million UAH).
Each year, the Ministry of Economy publishes a list of models subject to the tax. In 2025, the list included 355 models, including vehicles from brands such as Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, etc. For comparison, in 2022, the list contained only 189 models, according to Politeka.
Tax authorities receive information about vehicle owners from the Service Centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which provide the relevant data starting from April 1 each year. After that, the State Tax Service (STS) sends notifications to the owners, who are required to pay the tax of 25,000 UAH within 60 days.
According to the STS, the number of Ukrainians owning expensive cars has increased by 6.2 times since the beginning of the full-scale war. This may be linked to the rise in imports of premium vehicles, increased incomes of certain categories of citizens, and the specifics of vehicle registration in Ukraine.
Although the total amount of tax on luxury cars is relatively small in the context of the state budget, it still represents a significant financial burden for owners of expensive vehicles.
