In case of repeated violations regarding license plates, according to the Administrative Offenses Code of Ukraine, the fine for Ukrainians increases.
The issue of license plate violations is covered in Article 121-3 of the Administrative Offenses Code of Ukraine.
In Ukraine, drivers are prohibited from operating a vehicle if the license plate is so dirty that its symbols cannot be recognized from a distance of 20 meters. A fine is imposed for such a violation.
This rule also applies in situations where the plates do not meet established requirements, specifically:
- License plates are upside down;
- Plates obscured by various objects (even transparent ones), making identification difficult;
- Dirty plates that cannot be recognized from a distance of 20 meters;
- Non-illuminated plates;
- Plates mounted in incorrect positions.
If a driver deliberately tries to conceal numbers on the plate, it also incurs a fine of 2250 hryvnias. The explanatory note to the bill points out that some drivers use various materials to disguise their plates.
Upon repeated violations, according to the Administrative Offenses Code of Ukraine, the fine increases to 5100 hryvnias, and the driver may be deprived of their driving rights for a period of 3 to 6 months.
By law, there must be two license plates on the vehicle. If even one of the plates is missing, the driver still faces a fine.
Driving without plates is regarded as using fake or someone else's license plates, which can result in the seizure of the vehicle for further investigation.
