Negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine should first take place with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders, and then with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a podcast with American journalist of Ukrainian descent, Lex Friedman, released on Sunday, January 5. Zelensky noted that he would be open to meeting with Trump right after his inauguration, for instance, on his birthday, January 25. "We need to sit down with Trump and agree on how we can stop Putin," the president explained. Furthermore, according to Zelensky, Ukraine should receive support from Europe. He believes this will happen quickly, as Europe will listen to Trump. "I already see that when we talk about something with Trump, all European leaders ask, 'So how did the conversation go?' This, by the way, speaks to Donald Trump's influence. There hasn't been this kind of attention towards the American president before," Zelensky said. "And with strong security guarantees from the U.S. and Europe, Ukraine is ready to talk to Russia," the head of state clarified. Volodymyr Zelensky stated that
Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire if it has weapons and if sanctions against Russia are lifted. Recall that in September, President Zelensky stated that
there will be no freezing of the war with the Russian Federation, as during a ceasefire, the Russians would prepare and once again attack Ukraine.
