It is currently impossible to determine the actual number of fatalities in Mariupol. According to available information, the Russians have killed around 20,000 people in the city. This was stated by President Vladimir Zelensky in an interview with Italian journalist Cecilia Salli. "I think it's really impossible to understand (the number of victims in Mariupol – ed.) without the appropriate work being done right there on the ground. We had information that the Russians killed somewhere around 20,000, but I cannot say that specifically," he noted, the head of state. The President also pointed out that the Russians have taken thousands of people captive. Ukraine has managed to return 4,000, but thousands more remain in Russian captivity. Furthermore, the Ukrainian side is aware that the Russians have killed, imprisoned, and tortured all civilians who participated in protests in Mariupol. "These are hundreds, or thousands, or tens of thousands. Additionally, there were active combat operations, and many were injured or died under debris," Zelensky said. It is worth noting that, according to CNS information, the Russians took more than a hundred Ukrainian high school students from Mariupol to Russian Saint Petersburg for so-called "re-education." People remain on the streets: over 500 homes have been demolished in Mariupol
