Chicken eggs, traditionally a staple for Ukrainians, saw a significant price increase at the end of 2024. However, some supermarkets are offering an alternative – unpackaged eggs that can be purchased at a lower cost.
According to the " Minfin " portal, as of mid-January 2025, the average price for packaged eggs ranges from 68 to 74 UAH for 10 pieces. Buying eggs individually helps reduce expenses. For instance, in the "Novus" chain, eggs are priced at 3.54 UAH each, meaning a dozen would cost 35.40 UAH. This is significantly cheaper than the packaged products, which are priced as follows:
«Yasensvit» C1 – 68.09 UAH;
«From a Good Chicken» C1 – 72.40 UAH;
«Yasensvit Young» C0 – 89.99 UAH;
«Zlata Kladka» C0 - 91.99 UAH.
Prices in Other Chains
Not all supermarkets offer the most attractive conditions. In "Varus," the price for an individual egg is 4.69 UAH, and at times it can reach 8.40 UAH per piece. In "Megamarket," an egg costs 6 UAH, while packaging starts at 61.20 UAH, which doesn’t allow for significant savings.
In "Silpo," unpackaged eggs are not available, and the minimum price for a package is 50.99 UAH (chicken eggs "Full Bowl"). In "Metro," the best deal is 57.10 UAH for a dozen ("Nasedka Faina"), but individual eggs are not sold. A similar situation exists at "ATB," where prices start at 50.90 UAH for 10 pieces.
The most economical option remains the "Auchan" chain. Here, unpackaged eggs cost only 3.50 UAH each, while packaged products can be purchased for 50.70 UAH for a dozen.
Is the Product Always Available?
It is important to note that the availability of individual eggs in supermarkets does not always match the information on their websites. Often, the product listings shown online may not be in stock at the stores. Therefore, it is advisable to confirm product availability before visiting.
