On Monday, January 6, at 12:18 PM, the emergency dispatch service of the Belotserkovsky district received a report of smoke in a school building located on Zelenaya Street in the city of Bila Tserkva. Rescue units quickly responded to the call and arrived at the scene within minutes. This was reported by GSChS.
It was discovered that the fire started in the locker room of the "School-Lyceum No. 16" gym. Initially, rescuers determined that the source of the ignition was an explosion of a power bank, which caused the fire to spread throughout the room.
Emergency response teams from the 3rd, 4th, and 1st State Fire and Rescue Units of the city were dispatched to the scene, along with a special purpose emergency rescue squad and the duty crew of the 48th State Fire and Rescue Unit from the village of Grebenki. A total of 5 units of equipment and 24 rescuers were involved in extinguishing the fire.
Within 30 minutes, by 12:50 PM, the fire was extinguished. According to preliminary reports, there were no injuries or fatalities as a result of the power bank explosion. The school staff promptly evacuated 9 students who were in the building during the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and law enforcement continues to look into the matter.
