Law enforcement officials have reported suspicions against a military blogger who deceived his followers while fundraising for weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The amount in question is at least 350,000 hryvnias, as reported yesterday evening by the Office of the Prosecutor General and National Police.
According to the investigation, in July 2022, the man posted on his page that he had the opportunity to purchase UAVs and five foreign-made mortars, with a total cost of around 3.5 million hryvnias. He justified the urgency and importance of the fundraising by claiming that it would assist the military in battles near Izyum.
"As the National Police investigators discovered, a certain portion of the funds was kept by the man himself. This involves at least 350,000 hryvnias misappropriated from the collections. Evidence of this is reflected in the movement of funds across his personal card accounts, to which law enforcement obtained sanctioned access during the investigation," the statement reads.
The police located the offender in Vinnytsia at his residence and notified him of the suspicion of fraud committed under martial law, which caused significant damage to the victim (part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). A preventive measure will soon be chosen for him.
According to sources from RBK-Ukraine, the individual in question is military blogger Vladislav Sord.
