A draft law No. 12222 has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes to lower the maximum age for mobilization from 60 to 55 years. According to one of the authors of the document, people's deputy Alexey Goncharenko, this measure is justified by the deteriorating health conditions of older military personnel and the necessity for rotation.
"Most men aged 55-60 have poorer health, are often classified as 'limited fit', and are physically unable to perform all combat tasks. Military personnel who have served since 2022, particularly those who have been injured or are over 50, require rotation or demobilization. Commanders note that 'the army is aging', and senior servicemen cannot always effectively carry out certain combat missions," Goncharenko stated.
Goncharenko emphasized that those who wish to continue their service after reaching the new maximum age will be able to do so on a voluntary basis.
The initiative has already gained wide support among Ukrainians. A petition proposing to reduce the maximum age for mobilization to 55 has gathered 25,000 signatures.
"This is an important step towards ensuring the effectiveness of the troops, rotating military personnel, and preserving their health. I will insist on the prompt consideration of the draft law!" the deputy added.
It should be noted that starting from November 25, a law on firearms began to take effect: what will change for civilians. As of November 25, 2024, a law in Ukraine that improves the procedure for declaring, obtaining, and storing firearms will come into force.
