Customs officers in Kyiv discovered a particularly dangerous psychoactive substance - mescaline - during an inspection of an international mail shipment coming from Peru to the capital. This was reported on Friday, January 3, by the press service of the State Customs Service. In particular, the parcel contained two packages labeled Mucura, each containing 1 kg of green powder. On the label, the product was marketed as a substance with antioxidant properties, aimed at strengthening the immune system and assisting with memory issues. However, examinations confirmed that the packages contained a banned substance. "Laboratory analysis revealed the presence of mescaline in the samples - a psychoactive substance that affects the psyche, causing hallucinations and euphoria, but also leading to serious consequences: depression, loss of self-control, and suicidal tendencies," the statement said. The customs officers emphasized that the shipment of narcotic and psychoactive substances is prohibited under the Universal Postal Convention. A protocol for a customs violation has been drawn up under Article 473 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The substance has been seized.
