In Greece, individuals carrying communist flags attacked Ukrainians gathered at the Taras Shevchenko monument to honor the memory of those who perished during the Holodomor. The Ukrainian Embassy issued a strong protest and demands that those responsible be held accountable. The corresponding statement was
made public at the embassy on Saturday, November 23. The incident took place in the city of Mandra, where the Taras Shevchenko monument is located. A group of aggressively inclined individuals bearing communist flags and slogans attacked Ukrainians, including women and children from Ukrainian schools and associations. The embassy accused the Communist Party of Greece of engaging in violent provocative actions. "This act of provocation, culminating in physical assaults, including an attack on a Ukrainian diplomat that resulted in bodily harm, is absolutely unacceptable and constitutes a blatant violation of international [norms]," the statement read. The embassy called on Greek law enforcement to promptly investigate the incident and ensure accountability for those involved. They emphasized the need to protect the rights of individuals and communities in remembrance of historical tragedies without fear of intimidation or violence. Earlier reports indicated that in Poland, a Ukrainian died during
police detention.
