Preparations have been completed in The Hague for establishing a Commission to review claims for damages caused by Russia.

В Гааге завершена подготовка к созданию Комиссии для рассмотрения заявлений о компенсациях за ущерб, причиненный Россией.

The preparatory work for the establishment of the international Commission for the consideration of claims, which will award compensation for damages caused by Russian aggression, has been completed.

This was announced by the Deputy Head of the President's Office, Irina Mudra, as reported by the press service of the Office of the President.

It is noted that the fourth and final preparatory meeting for the creation of the Commission took place in The Hague.

Representatives from 53 countries and the European Union discussed the draft international agreement and set a date for the diplomatic conference. Official negotiations are planned to begin in March in The Hague.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Irina Mudra, emphasized the need to conclude official negotiations and sign the international agreement by the end of the current year.

“We cannot forget the stories of the people for whom we are working. Behind each claim submitted to the Registry of Losses is a family mourning a loss, a community striving for recovery, a nation fighting for its future. This is not just statistics. These are lives forever changed by aggression,” she stressed.

As noted in the Office of the President, the Commission for the consideration of claims will become the second key element of the international compensation mechanism—one of the priorities of the seventh point of the Peace Formula, “Restoration of Justice.”

The first element—the Registry of Losses caused by Russia's aggression against Ukraine—has already begun accepting claims in two categories: the death of a close family member and damage or destruction of housing. Work on opening the remaining categories is ongoing.
