In Chernihiv, two men have been engaged in criminal activities for years, targeting the deception and murder of elderly individuals and people with disabilities. Law enforcement officials and investigators have uncovered the organizers of this scheme, who manipulated and used fake powers of attorney to transfer the property of lonely pensioners to themselves, subsequently administering lethal doses of poison to them. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

The criminals, a 44-year-old and a 34-year-old resident of Chernihiv, sought out vulnerable individuals and persuaded them to drink alcohol together. They consistently brought their victims alcoholic beverages, to which they added toxic substances, including methanol and potent pharmaceuticals. During these meetings, the fraudsters convinced the victims to grant them powers of attorney over their property, enabling them to control the assets.

However, during an attempt to poison their next victim, a 66-year-old Chernihiv resident with visual impairment, law enforcement officers, in collaboration with the special unit KORD, apprehended the offenders. During the searches, they seized bottles containing alcoholic substances, medications, powers of attorney for property, passports, bank cards, and mobile phones, as well as weapons - a rifle and a shotgun with ammunition.

The suspects have been charged with attempted murder and large-scale fraud. They face a potential sentence of 10 to 15 years imprisonment or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, during which the police are identifying all victims of this criminal group.
