On January 9, during a massive Russian assault, Ukraine's air defense shot down 46 Shahed strike drones.

On the night of January 9, 2025, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale attack on the territory of Ukraine, deploying 70 strike drones of the "Shahed" type and other imitation drones from various directions - from Millerovo, Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. The attack commenced on January 7 at 19:30, but the main strikes were carried out on the night of January 9. This is reported by the Ukrainian Armed Forces Air Force.

Thanks to the prompt and effective actions of the Air Forces and Defense Forces of Ukraine, 46 drones were destroyed, predominantly "Shahed" models. The enemy drones were neutralized in several regions, including Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv.

Despite the defensive successes, some of these drones still caused damage on the ground. As a result of the downed strike drones falling in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions, several private homes were damaged; however, there was no significant threat to the civilian population overall.

We remind you that three passenger planes were noticed over Ukraine. On January 6, three passenger aircraft were spotted over Transcarpathia in the restricted airspace of Ukraine.
