Israel may be on the brink of a new conflict, and this time the threat does not come from Iran, but from Turkey.
This is reported by The Jerusalem Post, referencing a report prepared by experts for the Israeli government. Among the most significant threats is the possibility of Turkish intervention in Syria, analysts say.
"The threat from Syria could escalate into something even more dangerous than the Iranian threat," the report states.
Experts also warn that Turkey-backed forces could act as intermediaries, fueling regional instability. They emphasize that Turkey's policy in the Middle East, particularly its support for forces in Syria, could exacerbate the situation and potentially lead to direct military confrontation.
In light of this, experts recommend that Israel increase its defense budget by $4 billion over the next five years to strengthen the country's military capabilities. Additionally, analysts advise the government to expand its procurement of military equipment, such as fighter jets, drones, and satellites. Suggestions also include enhancing air defense and constructing a secure barrier in the Jordan River valley, despite potential diplomatic issues with neighboring Jordan.
"We are witnessing fundamental changes in the Middle East. Iran has long been our greatest threat, but new forces are emerging, and we must be prepared for the unexpected. This report provides us with a roadmap for securing Israel's future," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
