Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican, stated that elected President Donald Trump aims to secure an agreement with Ukraine that would enable the U.S. to benefit from rare Ukrainian minerals. He made this remark in a commentary for CBS News. Graham emphasized that Ukraine is the richest country in Europe in terms of rare minerals, which he estimates to be valued between $2-7 trillion. This is why the U.S. should assist Ukraine in winning the war against Russia. "Ukraine is ready to make an agreement with us, not with Russia, so it is in our interest to ensure that Russia does not establish itself there," the congressman explained. According to him, "the war in Ukraine is driven by money," although no one wants to discuss this openly. "Ukraine possesses natural resources and valuable metals worth trillions of dollars. For instance: uranium, titanium, lithium, graphite, and other strategic resources that will strengthen either Russia or Ukraine and its allies," Graham emphasized. He highlighted that Ukraine is the "breadbasket" of the world. Specifically, 50% of food supplied to Africa comes from Ukraine. "We can earn and have economic relations with Ukraine that will be very beneficial for us. So, Donald Trump wants an agreement to reclaim our funds, allowing us to profit from rare minerals. A good deal for Ukraine and for us. And it will bring peace," Graham concluded. It is noteworthy that in this commentary, Graham essentially reiterated one of the points from Zelensky's Victory Plan, which he presented to both presidential candidates before the elections in the U.S. It includes a proposal for the U.S. and the EU to enter into a joint agreement to protect resources and
utilize economic potential. Reports indicated that this point has a secret appendix. Later, media reported that
Trump is interested in two points from the Victory Plan – the replacement of part of the American troops stationed in Europe with Ukrainian forces and the point concerning Ukraine's minerals. It was noted that the second point was proposed by Graham, who suggested sharing Ukraine's critically important natural resources with the West.
