The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced plans to negotiate with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to delay the imposition of a 10% tariff. The tariffs are set to take effect on Tuesday, February 4, reports Bloomberg.

While addressing reporters in Washington, Trump stated that talks with China would likely occur "within the next 24 hours."

"If we cannot reach an agreement with China, the tariffs will be very, very significant," the American leader assured.

Previously, the U.S. President announced that the tariff for China would take effect on Tuesday at 12:01 AM (7:01 AM Kyiv time).

Later, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt informed Fox News that Trump intends to discuss "illegal Chinese fentanyl" with Xi Jinping.

Attention has shifted to China after Trump reached agreements with Mexico and Canada to delay the implementation of a 25% tariff in exchange for stricter measures to combat migration and illegal drug trafficking at the border.

It’s worth noting that the Ministry of Commerce of China condemned Donald Trump's decision to impose new 10% tariffs on Chinese exports to the U.S., stating its intention to appeal this decision to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and implement corresponding countermeasures.
