The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing a military aid package for Ukraine amounting to $725 million, which is expected to be officially announced by next Monday. This was reported on Thursday, November 28, by
Reuters citing sources. It is noted that the package will include a variety of weapons aimed at deterring the advance of Russian troops. Among the planned supplies are:
- anti-tank weapons,
- mines,
- drones,
- Stinger missiles,
- ammunition for HIMARS systems,
- cluster munitions that can be used in GMLRS rockets.
It is expected that the official notification to the U.S. Congress regarding this package will arrive by Monday. However, the content and amount of aid may change by the time the document is signed by Joe Biden. This package will represent the largest use of Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) for the emergency allocation of weapons from U.S. stockpiles. Previously, such packages typically ranged from $125–250 million, and now Biden has access to an additional $4–5 billion in PDA approved by Congress. Earlier reports indicated that
Biden may not be able to provide Ukraine with the promised multibillion-dollar aid. The Pentagon has already reached its monthly limit for sending weapons to Ukraine and is now facing logistical challenges in delivering arms to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
