The Ukrainian security service has arrested a spy from the Russian intelligence in one of the military enlistment offices in the Volyn region. The Main Intelligence Directorate discovered him through his connections with relatives in Russia. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

"The military counterintelligence of the Security Service, with the assistance of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a Russian agent who was preparing a new series of airstrikes by the Russian Federation on Volyn," the report states.

The culprit turned out to be a 30-year-old soldier serving in a security unit of the local center for commercial culture. According to the investigation, he was remotely recruited by an officer from the Russian army's intelligence (more commonly known as the Main Intelligence Directorate).

“He came to the attention of the occupiers through his relatives in Russia, with whom he maintained contact and shared anti-Ukrainian views,” the SBU reported.

The man attempted to identify and report the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service, and the National Police to the aggressor.

“To accomplish this task, the agent drove around the area in a service vehicle under the guise of work trips and recorded the locations of military facilities. He also tried to detect radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to facilitate enemy shelling 'bypassing' Ukrainian air defense,” the agency explained.

The agent transmitted the information he gathered to his Russian handler via an encrypted chat in a messenger. The perpetrator is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment and confiscation of his property.

Previously, it was reported that traitors who prepared strikes on an airfield in Prykarpattia received 13 years in prison. Three individuals from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhia turned out to be allies of the aggressor, who were recruited by Russian intelligence back in 2021.
