Since the start of the day, there have been 89 combat engagements.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published operational information regarding the Russian invasion as of 16:00 on Saturday, January 18.   "The situation at the frontline remains complex. The Ukrainian defense forces are focusing their efforts on thwarting the offensive plans of the Russian aggressor and are destroying its personnel and equipment. Since the start of the day, there have been 89 combat clashes. The most battles have been recorded in the Pokrovsk direction," the statement reads.   Communities of the settlements of Timofeevka in Kharkiv region; Zhelezny Most in Chernihiv region; Popovka, Sosnovka, and Progress in Sumy region have suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.   In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy has attacked our troops' positions near Volchansk five times.   In the Kupiansk direction – four times, in the areas of Petropavlivka, Lozova, and Pyschane. Hlushkivka was hit by a KAB.   In the Lyman direction, the Russians attacked Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Zeleny Hai, Pervomaiske, Kopanky, Novoyehorivka, Novosadove, Novolyubivka, and Zarechne nine times. Four combat clashes are ongoing.   In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy attacked four times in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Stupochky, dropping two KABs on Markove.   In the Toretsk direction, there were 16 enemy attacks in the areas of Toretsk, Krymske, and Shcherbynivka, with 10 attacks repelled and fighting continuing.   "In the Pokrovsk direction, since the start of the day, the occupiers have made 32 attempts to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of the settlements of Vodyane Druhe, Yelizavetivka, Luch, Lisovka, Zelenyi, Shevchenko, Uspenivka, Slavyanka, Andriivka, Dachne, Ulakly, and Yantarnoye." They are holding the line and have repelled 28 attacks from the enemy, with four combat clashes still ongoing," the General Staff reports.   In the Novopavlivsk direction, the Russians attacked 12 times near Velyka Novosilka, with fighting ongoing. The enemy dropped KABs on Adrivne, Razliv, Vesele, and Temyrivka.   In the Orikhiv direction, the occupation forces made one assault on our troops' positions near Novodanylivka.   The enemy also unsuccessfully attempted to storm our defenders' positions in the Dnipro direction.   "Operations continue in the Kursk region. Ukrainian soldiers have repelled five attacks from the invading troops today, and three combat clashes are ongoing. The enemy has carried out 224 artillery strikes, including four from multiple launch rocket systems," the report further states.   It is worth noting that during the assaults, fighters from the 12th Special Purpose Brigade Azov captured 23 soldiers of the Russian army in the Toretsk direction.   It was reported that Ukrainian military forces in the Kursk region captured 13 fighters of the Russian army.
