The Rada has passed a law simplifying the process for spouses of Ukrainian Armed Forces members to obtain citizenship.

On January 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed bill No. 12032, which simplifies the process of obtaining citizenship for spouses of Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen.

On Wednesday, January 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially adopted bill №12032, which simplifies the process for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship for the spouses of Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) servicemen. A total of 270 deputies voted in favor of the document.

Among the key changes that will take effect following the adoption of the law are:

  • Spouses of UAF servicemen, as well as those who served in the army and died or passed away while fulfilling their duties, will be able to submit a declaration to renounce foreign citizenship in order to obtain Ukrainian citizenship.
  • A quota for immigration has been established for foreign nationals coming to Ukraine to reunite with their UAF serviceman spouse.
  • Foreign spouses who defended Ukraine will have the opportunity to restore their Ukrainian citizenship.

This legislative initiative aims to support the families of servicemen and improve conditions for reunification with their loved ones.

It is worth noting that Mykola Tyshchenko appeared in the Rada after completing his house arrest. People's Deputy Mykola Tyshchenko, who had been under house arrest since June, announced its conclusion and spoke about his treatment in the hospital.
