Ukrainian defenders carried out a unique special operation, resulting in the recovery of an enemy BMP-2 that had been submerged underwater for two years. This was reported by the official channel of the operational-strategic grouping of troops "Khortytsia" (OSUV "Khortytsia") on Telegram.

The special operation, named "Sea Monster," took place nearly along the front line. During the operation, Ukrainian soldiers managed to extract the armored vehicle right under the noses of the occupiers.

According to the commander of the 106th battalion of the 63rd separate mechanized brigade, Arthur Skripnik, information was received that a BMP-2 was submerged in a water body on the northern outskirts of Torsk (Donetsk region). The operation was prepared over the course of one and a half months, with two weeks spent waiting for suitable weather. Skripnik noted that the operation to retrieve the armored vehicle began on a day characterized by fog and wet snow.

The commander of the tank battalion with the call sign "Sarmat" reported that the BMP-2 was extracted using cables, and the operation went smoothly and without issues. The BMP gunner with the call sign "Bandera" mentioned that the occupiers likely abandoned the vehicle from 2022, leaving behind ammunition, which makes it valuable for Ukrainian forces. Despite enemy drones monitoring their actions during the operation, it was carried out without losses.

A soldier reported that no visible damage was found on the BMP. The vehicle will be sent for major repairs and will serve the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is worth noting that the Russian Federation is advancing on Pokrovsk: Reuters assesses the threat to Ukrainian forces. Russian troops continue to gradually reduce the encirclement around Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, an important logistical hub for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
