Polish farmers have initiated a new protest at the border with Ukraine. The Medyka-Szeginy crossing is blocked for trucks, according to RFM24 and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU) on Saturday, November 23.
"Trucks traveling from Poland to Ukraine will be allowed to pass one at a time per hour. Passenger cars, buses, vehicles carrying humanitarian aid, and military convoys are crossing without issues in both directions," the statement reads.
According to the organizers, farmers are protesting for two reasons. The first is the failure to meet the demand to maintain the agricultural tax level in 2024 at the same level as in 2023. The second reason is concerns related to the European Union signing a free trade agreement with South American countries.
The agrarians stated that if no agreements are reached, they will protest around the clock until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the SBGSU reports that there is currently no buildup of trucks at the exit point from Ukraine. Approximately 150 trucks are waiting to enter Ukraine.
According to preliminary information from the border guards, the action will last for 48 hours with a possible extension.
Earlier, Polish farmers announced new protests at the border with Ukraine. Border guards warned of potential delays in traffic at the Polish border. However, so far, the agrarians have not blocked traffic at the border.
It is worth noting that from November 2023 until the summer of 2024, Poles periodically blocked crossing points at the border with Ukraine. They demanded a ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.
