The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has initiated a pre-trial investigation into the criminal case regarding the execution of five Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) prisoners of war by Russian occupiers in the Pokrovsk direction. This act has been classified as a war crime, combined with intentional murder, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The incident occurred in November 2024, when Russian troops launched an assault on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces near the village of Petrovka in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region. During the offensive, five Ukrainian soldiers were forced to retreat and take refuge in a private house. After the building was surrounded, the Russian military captured the Ukrainian defenders as prisoners.
In violation of all norms of international humanitarian law, the occupiers forced the prisoners to leave their shelter and lie on the ground unarmed. Following this, they executed the Ukrainian soldiers with automatic weapons.
This murder constitutes a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions, which protect the rights of prisoners of war and prohibit their killing or torture. According to international standards, such actions are considered a serious international crime that requires immediate response.
It should be noted that in Kyiv, a Russian agent was detained who was preparing a terrorist act against the police. On November 17, in Kyiv, the SBU and the National Police apprehended a Russian agent who attempted to carry out a terrorist act by placing a grenade in an apartment in the Pechersk district.
