On the night of November 20, 2024, starting at 7:30 PM on November 19, Russian occupiers launched yet another massive airstrike against Ukraine. They utilized the S-300 surface-to-air missile from Belgorod and five guided air-to-surface missiles X-59/69, targeting sites in Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions. This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.
Moreover, the enemy employed guided bombs and carried out a mass launch of 122 strike drones of the "Shahed" type, as well as unidentified UAVs from the areas of Kursk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
The Ukrainian defense forces, particularly the air force, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force, actively countered the attacks. As of 11:00 AM on November 20, two guided air-to-surface missiles X-59/69 and 56 enemy UAVs had already been confirmed as shot down in various regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Kharkiv regions.
In addition, Ukrainian forces inflicted losses on Russian troops, as 58 enemy UAVs were locally destroyed in different areas of Ukraine. Six drones that left Ukrainian territory were also eliminated: five returned to Russia, and one went to Belarus.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Ukrainian defenders, the enemy was unable to achieve its objectives, and as a result of active countermeasures, the effectiveness of enemy attacks was significantly reduced. However, the threat from Russian aviation and UAVs remains high, and Ukrainian military continues to strengthen defensive positions across all fronts.
It is worth noting that the enemy attacked Kyiv region with drones, damaging a kindergarten, a school, and shops. On November 20, Kyiv region again became a target for enemy drone attacks. An air alert lasted during which air defense forces destroyed all threats.
