On the morning of November 11, Russian military forces shelled the settlement of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk region. As a result, the Ternivska dam of the Kurakhiv reservoir was destroyed. This was reported by "Donbas News" and "Suspilne Donbas".
According to "Donbas News", the water level in the Volcha River rose by a full meter. Local residents in the villages along the riverbank have observed a significant increase in water levels.
"We know that water is flowing through the villages located near the Ternivska dam. We cannot confirm the nature or severity of the damage. We are unable to inspect the dam due to ongoing shelling as of now," stated Roman Padun, head of the Kurakhiv Military Administration, to "Suspilne".
According to his claims, there is information that water is approaching the settlements of the Velykonovosilkivska community.
"We have reports from other settlements in the Velykonovosilkivska community that water is flowing there as the sluices are opening. We can confirm that the dam is likely damaged," Padun noted.
It is noted that inspecting the site of the "arrival" is complicated due to active fighting in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhiv directions. In the event of dam damage, there is a risk of partial flooding of settlements located downstream of the Volcha River, including the villages of Stari Terny, Ulakli, Konstytinopol, Andriivka, Alekseevka, Bohatyr, Zelenyi Uhol, Novoukrainka, as well as several other settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
We remind you that Ukrainian military reported that Kurakhovo is under threat of encirclement by Russian forces. In Kurakhovo, which has both high-rise buildings and private sector homes, residents face daily shelling from aviation and artillery of various calibers.
