The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has issued a default ruling in the case of Andriy Odarchenko, a member of parliament from the "Servant of the People" faction, sentencing him to eight years in prison with asset confiscation and a three-year prohibition on holding public office. This was reported by the publication "Grati," citing information from the courtroom.
The court found the MP guilty of bribing the former head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration, Mustafa Nayyem. According to the case materials, Odarchenko transferred $10,000 worth of bitcoins to Nayyem's cryptocurrency wallet, seeking assistance in directing funds for the restoration of the Kharkiv State Biotechnological University, which, according to investigators, he continued to control despite his former position. Odarchenko denies his guilt, claiming that Nayyem's actions compelled him to take these actions.
In mid-September, the MP left the country and vanished abroad. The court ruled to put him on the wanted list and to conduct the proceedings in absentia. Despite this, Odarchenko continued to participate in court sessions via video link.
It is worth noting that MP Odarchenko fled to Romania and sought political asylum. The MP from "Servant of the People" escaped to Romania and requested political asylum: NABU has placed him on the international wanted list.
