The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police conducted successful operations resulting in the arrest of two individuals who were carrying out assignments for Russian special services in various regions of Ukraine. The offenders aimed to set fire to critical infrastructure objects that posed a threat to national security. This was reported by SBU.
Specifically, to carry out the arson, the occupiers recruited local residents, lured by promises of quick earnings through Telegram channels. However, instead of the expected money, they faced suspicion of serious crimes and the risk of imprisonment.
In Kyiv region, an 18-year-old resident of the Kagarlyk district was arrested for setting fire to a building of the local territorial community. He broke a plastic window and poured a flammable mixture inside. After that, the criminal filmed the fire on his phone and sent a report to his Russian handler.
The young man was supposed to carry out another assignment - to set fire to the Ukrposhta building in a neighboring settlement, but he was apprehended by the police immediately after committing the first crime.
In Sumy region, a 35-year-old unemployed man was arrested, who was also working for Russian special services. He set fire to two reception offices of territorial recruitment centers and three vehicles of Ukrainian military personnel. The offender used arson as part of a plan to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
Both detainees were charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: part 1 of article 114-1 (obstruction of lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations in a special period) and part 2 of article 194 (intentional destruction or damage to property).
The criminals are in custody. For the crimes committed, they face imprisonment for up to 10 years. The operations leading to their arrest have become an important step in the fight against Russian saboteurs attempting to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
