Международная коалиция заложила правовую основу для создания трибунала, который будет рассматривать агрессию против Украины.

During a significant meeting attended by legal advisors from the European Commission, the European External Action Service, the Council of Europe, as well as representatives from 37 countries, key principles were established for the creation of a special tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression against Ukraine. The main provisions of the Schuman Charter, which will govern the tribunal's activities, were also presented. The Ukrainian delegation at the meeting was led by Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

"This concerns not only Ukraine. It is about global justice and the message we send to the world. That is why we want the special tribunal to be successful, and we ask those who are interested in preserving the world order to join us in the pursuit of justice. The launch of the tribunal will prove that we are serious about ensuring peace and international law, that the perpetrators of the crime of aggression will be held accountable, and that justice will be restored," Mudra stated.

Once operational, the tribunal will have the authority to hold accountable Russian political and military leaders who bear primary responsibility for the crime of aggression.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of this process for Ukraine and the world, stating.

"When Russia decided to violate Ukraine's borders, disregarding the UN Charter, it committed one of the gravest international crimes - the crime of aggression. Justice is now approaching. Justice for Ukraine. We have laid the legal foundations for the establishment of a special tribunal," Ursula von der Leyen noted.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alena Berse, also expressed a positive assessment of the meeting's outcomes, highlighting the significance of this step for future generations.

"The establishment of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine within the framework of the Council of Europe will enable our international partners, particularly Ukraine and the European Union, to fully leverage our experience and knowledge in protecting human rights and the rule of law worldwide," Berse said.
