A massive drone attack by "Shahed" on Ukraine resulted in air defense forces shooting down 28 strike UAVs.

On the night of January 7, 2025, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using "Shahed" type strike drones and decoy drones. The assault began at 19:30 on January 6, deploying UAVs from Russian territory, specifically from the regions of Millerovo, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. This information was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

To counter the aerial assault, aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and other defense forces of Ukraine were engaged. Thanks to coordinated actions, a high level of air defense effectiveness was achieved.

According to the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 09:00, the destruction of 28 strike UAVs "Shahed" and drones of other types has been confirmed. The attacks were successfully repelled in seven regions of Ukraine: Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Kirovohrad. No hits on targets or casualties among the civilian population were recorded. Additionally, 10 decoy drones, used to distract Ukrainian air defense, were locally lost, with three of them returning toward Russia without causing any harm.
