The chief psychiatrist of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been detained for illegally enriching himself by over $1 million.

The Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, has detained the head of the psychiatric clinic of the National Military Medical Clinical Center "Main Military Clinical Hospital." The official, who held a significant military position, is implicated in illegal enrichment exceeding 1 million US dollars. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, during his time in service, this official acquired a considerable amount of property that does not correspond to his legal income. Among the unlawfully acquired assets are a private house of over 280 square meters in the Kyiv region, two apartments in the capital, and one in Odessa. Additionally, during the searches, two plots of land in the Kyiv region, several premium cars, such as the BMW X7 (2024), BMW X5 (2023), BMW X3 (2022), and cash totaling around 8 million hryvnias were discovered.

The illegally acquired assets exceed the amount that the official could have earned during his service, even by the highest standards of his income. This amounts to more than six thousand five hundred tax-free minimum incomes of citizens.

Currently, the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion regarding illegal enrichment and providing false information in declarations, in accordance with Articles 368-5 and 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, is being resolved. Furthermore, efforts are underway to impose a freeze on the identified assets and to decide on the application of a preventive measure in the form of detention.
