In December 2024, Russian forces used munitions armed with hazardous chemical substances against defense forces on 434 occasions. This was reported on Saturday, January 18, by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is noted that in addition to conventional firepower, Russia employs munitions with chemical agents, specifically K-51 and RG-V, which are crowd control measures and are prohibited as weapons of war. In December 2024, the radiation, chemical, and biological reconnaissance units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded 434 instances of such munitions being used, and since February 2023 (when the use of hazardous chemicals by Russia became systematic), there have been 5,389 recorded cases.
