A former tax officer from Zhytomyr claimed to be a combat veteran for two years to receive a salary.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) have reported suspicions against a former head of one of the departments of the Main Directorate of the State Tax Service (GTS) in the Zhytomyr region. According to the investigation, he deceitfully received a monthly salary for two years by posing as a participant in combat operations. This was reported by SBI.

The incident occurred in June 2022 when the tax officer signed a contract with a volunteer formation of the Dnipro City Territorial Community. However, despite signing the agreement, the man did not report for duty and continued to stay at home. This allowed him to evade his responsibilities at the tax service while retaining his position and, consequently, a stable salary.

During the time he pretended to be a defender, the tax officer illegally received 700,000 UAH in salary without performing any official duties.

The suspect's actions have been classified as abuse of power, which constitutes a violation of the law. A pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing, and the man faces criminal liability.

This case once again highlights the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability within government agencies, as well as the necessity for effective oversight of budgetary funds usage.
