Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha had a conversation with the outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This was reported by the Ukrainian diplomat on Sunday, January 19, via his
X microblog. The head of the Ukrainian agency expressed his gratitude to his American counterpart for his role in helping Ukraine withstand the war with Russia. The minister emphasized that Kyiv values its partnership with Washington and looks forward to continued support from the new administration. "During the farewell call, I thanked Antony Blinken for his crucial role at a turning point in history that helped ensure Ukraine's survival as an independent, free, and European nation. We value our strategic partnership and anticipate ongoing support from the new U.S. administration," wrote the head of Ukraine's foreign policy agency. The
State Department reported that Blinken thanked the Ukrainian Foreign Minister for his personal partnership in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. They discussed recent sanctions aimed at depriving Russia of resources for the war and continued work on creating conditions for a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Ukraine. Antony Blinken has led the U.S. State Department since January 2021 under the Biden administration. Former President Donald Trump had nominated Marco Rubio for this position. It is worth noting that The New York Times reported that at the end of 2022, then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley suggested that Ukraine should capitalize on its battlefield successes and begin negotiations with Russia. According to media reports, Blinken opposed this, insisting on continuing the fight. Additionally, it should be mentioned that former President Donald
Trump delayed the swift resolution of the war. His advisors now acknowledge that resolving the conflict will take months, if not longer.
