In the village of Hora near Kyiv, something inappropriately grandiose has been unexpectedly proposed. The chairman of the local council, Roman Dmitriev, laid out a working project for a new school, with a price tag of one billion hryvnias. Yes, you heard that right.

This was reported by Natalia Lyutikova, a member of the board of the NGO "Gromada Hory," on her Facebook.

"This is not a sketch of the National Concert Hall. Nor is it the design of a Microsoft office. It’s not even the premises of the University of the Future. And it’s certainly not the set of a sci-fi movie. This... You’d better sit down... This is. A real. Working project. For a school in the Boryspil district," Natalia writes.

She shared images of what this ultra-modern school will look like. The design cost 3 million hryvnias, which was funded by the community itself.

It’s hard not to wonder: is it appropriate to consider building such luxurious educational institutions in wartime?

Interestingly, in Hora, which has a population of just 7,000, lives a rather affluent community – a new elite has settled here: officials, tax inspectors, prosecutors, judges... Meanwhile, local farmers are gradually leaving their homes, which are being replaced by real palaces.

In support of Natalia's post, Ukrainian writer Tamara Goriha Zernya wrote.

At the session of the deputies, urgent decisions will be made regarding the financing of the construction, and it seems that this will be a unilateral decision, disregarding the opinions of ordinary residents.
