Many Ukrainians struggle to generate enough income to pay their utility bills on time and in full. As a result, the population's debts are rapidly increasing. Non-payers face several consequences, including the seizure of their property.

SubscribeThe debt collection procedure for housing and utility services is governed by the Law of Ukraine "On Enforcement Proceedings" and related regulations.
According to part 7 of article 48 of this law, if the debt for housing and utility services exceeds 20 times the minimum wage (currently 160,000 hryvnias), the enforcement proceedings may lead to the seizure of the debtor's only residence and the land on which it is located.
It is important to note that such a sanction can be applied only if the debtor has no other property that could cover the amount owed.

It is worth noting that property seizures for utility debts can also occur during martial law, so Ukrainians should avoid accumulating debts.
If one cannot pay the debt in full immediately, they can enter into a restructuring agreement to make partial payments. At the same time, one can apply for a subsidy or benefits if they were previously denied assistance due to outstanding debts.
