A fake news story is once again circulating on social media regarding the danger of free rides for Ukrainian soldiers via BlaBlaCar.

This was reported by the information project of the NGO "Institute for the Development of Regional Press".

The authors claim that drivers are allegedly offering assistance, changing their routes, and transporting passengers into Russian captivity. However, there have been no confirmed cases of abduction due to this service.

This information first appeared a year ago and has once again gained traction. It is often accompanied by emotional pleas: “Warn everyone! Don’t ignore this!” Such posts, which spread rapidly, create panic among the public. One of these messages has been shared over 16,000 times.

Experts, particularly from the NGO "Institute for the Development of Regional Press," have determined that this fake news is fabricated. Here’s why:

Lack of confirmed facts: Official authorities have not reported any such incidents, and all claims are based on unverified reports.

No direct communication with Russia: Crossing Ukrainian checkpoints without documentation is impossible.

Safety of BlaBlaCar: The service allows for route tracking via GPS and checking driver ratings.

The fake news spreading through social media aims to sow panic and undermine trust in volunteers and services. This could complicate the evacuation of people from frontline areas.
