In January 2025, prices for white cabbage in Ukraine tripled compared to the same period last year.
According to analysts from the EastFruit project, while just last week cabbage could be purchased for prices starting at 22 UAH per kilogram, it now fluctuates between 25-35 UAH/kg.
Analysts attribute this price increase to several factors. The decline in white cabbage production in the country, along with a reduction in the quantity of produce that can be stored for extended periods, are the main reasons behind the price hike. The market is experiencing limited supply of this vegetable, as many farms are refraining from selling, hoping for further price increases in the coming weeks.
"Most market participants predict further price increases. They justify their opinions with the decreased production of this product in the country, as well as a significant reduction in the share of produce suitable for long-term storage," analysts note.
Previously, Politeka also wrote that with the beginning of 2025, Ukrainians will face another rise in prices for most vegetables and fruits. Thus, prices for fruit and vegetable products will remain high due to several key factors: poor harvests, rising transportation and storage costs, as well as increases in fuel and electricity prices.
