The price of the popular vegetable, carrots, is rising in Ukrainian markets and stores.
According to analysts from the EastFruit project, just last week, the price per kilogram of carrots was 10% lower.
This trend has been ongoing for several weeks, and currently, prices for this vegetable range between 25-32 UAH per kilogram.
The primary reason for the increase in carrot prices is the decrease in the availability of quality produce from local producers. Some farmers have already completed the sale of their stocks, while others are trying to sell their remaining products at the best possible price, hoping for further price increases as spring approaches.
On average, the price of carrots has increased by 2.3 times since the beginning of January 2024, which is partly due to a reduced harvest caused by abnormal weather conditions during the summer.
It is also worth noting that in supermarkets, prices for a kilogram start at 29.5 UAH.
Moreover, Politeka wrote about the expected stabilization of food prices by late January to early February 2025, with some products potentially decreasing in price.
This was reported by Dmitry Solonchuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy.
He explained that the sharp rise in product prices was observed before the holidays due to the influence of the dollar exchange rate and increased costs for producers regarding energy resources, transport, and equipment purchased in foreign currency.
