Netflix is boosting the popularity of its spy thriller series "Black Doves," featuring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw in the lead roles.
The streaming service has released a trailer and several images promoting the show created by Joe Barton, along with announcing the premiere date for "Black Doves" — December 5.
"Black Doves," which also stars Sarah Lancashire, is set against the backdrop of London during Christmas. It follows Helen Webb (Knightley), a clever, practical, devoted wife and mother — and a professional spy.
For 10 years, she has been passing secrets from her politician husband to the shadowy organization she works for: the Black Doves.
When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is killed, her spy master, the enigmatic Reid (Lancashire), calls Helen's old friend Sam (Whishaw) to ensure her safety.
"Black Doves" is the latest standout offering from Netflix UK, which has released a number of hits this year, including Baby Reindeer and The Gentlemen.
The series "Black Doves" is co-produced by Sister, whose previous Netflix show, Kaos, was canceled after one season. Barton’s company Noisy Bear is also a co-producer.
The executive producers of "Black Doves" include Knightley, Barton, Jane Featherstone, and Chris Fry. The directors are Alex Gabassi (The Crown) and Lisa Gunning (The Power). The producer of the series is Harry Munday.
