In the Zhytomyr region, police apprehended a morgue worker who stole the wedding ring of a deceased Ukrainian soldier.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

The crime occurred during the preparation of the body for burial. The perpetrator removed the gold ring from the finger of the deceased hero.

The incident became known after the soldier's wife noticed the ring was missing during the funeral. She contacted law enforcement, convinced that the ring was in place before the body was transported to the morgue. During the investigation, police determined that the morgue worker was involved in the theft, having used pliers to remove the jewelry from the finger of the deceased.

Officers found the stolen ring at a local pawn shop. The man has been charged under Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (desecration of a grave or corpse). If proven guilty, the perpetrator faces a penalty of up to 5 years of restriction of freedom or up to 7 years of imprisonment. Currently, a decision is being made regarding the choice of a preventive measure.

The incident occurred on December 1, 2024, on Volodymyra Velykoho Street, when a man stole a green electric scooter valued at 6,000 hryvnias. During the court proceedings, the accused admitted his guilt.
